Rachel SmithRachel Smith read music at Royal Holloway, University of London and continued her studies with Peter Lloyd at the Royal Northern College of Music. She now performs regularly in London and across the UK in recital and freelances with various orchestras, including the West End Theatre and recordings for BBC Radio. Recent performances include the Reinecke Flute Concerto, Bach Suite in B Minor with the Musicians of All Saints and the premiere of Paul Carr?s 2nd Flute Concerto with Clifton Camerata in the 2002 Brighton Festival.

Rachel is actively involved in chamber music and has performed in festivals across the UK and abroad, most recently a highly acclaimed recital in the Harare International Festival of the Arts, Zimbabwe. She is a member of Tacet Ensemble, promoting new music, with performances across the South East and a broadcast on Radio 3?s Hear and Now in June.

She has commissioned works from composers such as Martin Ellerby, Paul Lewis and Paul Carr and has given many first performances of works with New Music Brighton. Rachel gives frequent recitals for the ?Music in Hospitals? scheme and works regularly with harpist Emma Ramsdale. She has toured the UK and abroad including Japan in 2002 playing the Chaminade Concertino which she has also recorded. Forthcoming plans for 2005 include a second tour to Japan, a recital at the Fairfield Halls Croydon and a chamber music CD of British Flute Music to be released on the Campion label in Autumn 2005.
