In 1983 he studied clarinet and saxophone at Kneller Hall under Paul Harvey. Having completed the year, he undertook his position in the Coldstream Guards Band and took over as the Principal Clarinettist in 1990 - a position he held for fifteen years. He has performed in many of the best concert halls around the world and also as a soloist on Radio 4, and was also featured on the tenor saxophone in a recent recording of The Harry James Trumpet Concert, which was performed by Rod Franks. Philip is currently teaching and working as a freelance clarinettist and saxophonist in the London area. His other interests include musical composition, yoga and the martial arts.
