Self Taught from age 7, my first musical inspirations were The Shadows and The Beatles. Progressed to gigging covers bands by age 14, on the London ?Club and Pub Scene.? I discovered Jazz at University and studied with top British Jazz guitarists Dave Cliff, John Etheridge, and Phil Lee.
I started to teach in the mid1980?s, initially from home in Islington, concentrating on electric styles Rock/Blues/Jazz. 1987 saw me join the visiting instrumental staff of Westminster School, where I have remained, and currently hold the post of Head of Jazz. I promote the Jazz Concert programme throughout the year, and continue to teach guitar students on a 1-1 basis. In 1998 I joined ?World Music? influenced 7 piece Zubop, wih whom I recorded 3CD?s and toured extensively in the UK , collaborating and writing with Juldeh Camara, a master musician from the Gambia. In addition to these performing and teaching commitments, I have found time to rewrite ?A Tune a Day Guitar? for Music Sales. Appearing as ?A New Tune a Day for Acoustic Guitar? in their complete revamp of a classic teaching series(2006). Another book is in the pipeline, ?Junior Complete Guitar Player?, in the series ?Complete Guitar Player? by Russ Shipton, I have taught Beginners Couses at the City Lit(erary Institute) in Covent Garden, and continue to appear in Pizza Express accompanying our finest Jazz Singers. I have recently completed producing the Debut CD for Chris Sykes, a songwriter, poet and playwright, with a string of successes to his name. We hope to take a show to the Edinburgh Festival next year (2010)
