Alexander Walker has a passion for education. He began learning the double bass and cello at an early age and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He is a graduate from Bristol University in music and followed his studies there with post-graduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the St. Petersburg State Conservatory in Russia. As a player, he has a busy free-lance career working with orchestras and ensembles such as the Brunel Ensemble, Stowe Opera, and St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. Whilst still a student he was principal player of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. He currently teaches at the Royal Academy of Music (Junior Department). He has led Educational workshops for the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, for English Touring Opera, for the South Bank Sinfonia ad the Britten Sinfonia. He is in demand as an adjudicator in competitions nationally and has also taught for Northamptionshire and Buckinghamshire Music Services as well as, for Hounslow Adult Education Music Centre. Alongside his playing he has an international career as a conductor. In the UK he works regularly for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and has conducted performances of the Nutcracker their as well as touring with the Royal Ballet to the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Opera Theatres in Russia, to the Lincoln and Kennedy Centres in the USA and to Singapore, Korea, Japan and Turkey. As a guest conductor he performs regularly with the Russian State Symphony, Prague Philharmonia, Russian Philharmonia, Belgrade Philharmonic, North Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, the Wroc?aw Philharmonic as well as a number of orchestras throughout Finland, Denmark, the Balkans and the former Soviet Union |
