Karen Fodor PDF Print E-mail
Karen FodorKaren was born in London, spent her early years in Karachi, grew up in Dundee and lived for a number of years in New York City. Her keen observational and interpersonal skills and ear for mimicking accents allow her to fit in wherever she lives. After a degree in Spanish at St. Andrew?s, a research scholarship took her to Madrid, and this was followed by postgraduate studies in Applied Linguistics at Kent and Education at London University. She began her professional life as a teacher and translator.

Her work as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language and Spanish, in both the UK and the USA, has led her to many corporate clients, amongst them GE Equity, Shell, the Korea Development Bank, Samsung, Sony, Southcorp Wines and Reuters. Courses have included one-to-one and small group classes in general language skills, business language, and presentation skills.

In her late 20s she trained as an opera singer, and Karen has combined these two distinct but complementary aspects of communication in a unique way. Her experience as a singer has enhanced her ability to help clients deal with diction, posture, stress management, breathing, body language, stage fright and the performance elements of public speaking.

Her specialist skills in coaching performers to sing in Spanish are increasingly in demand and her clients have included Katherine Jenkins and the BBC Singers. She is the Spanish language and repertoire coach at Trinity College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music, and for the Royal Opera House's Young Artists Programme.

She loves the variety of her work, but when not teaching or performing can be found digging her garden, cruising down the ski slopes at Zermatt, or cycling around south London.
