Mark McLaughlan Mark started playing drums twenty eight years ago. He began playing rudimental marching drums in a local pipe band at the age of ten. By the age of eleven he became the lead drummer of the drum corps and was one of the youngest leading drummers in the country at that time. At fifteen he began tutoring snare drumming and competed in solo snare drumming competitions. He was rarely out of the prize list in the London and South East branch of the Royal Scottish Pipe band drumming competitions.

At the age of seventeen Mark took up the drum kit and has been teaching drum kit since 1994. Mark studied with Paul Francis from Colchester for over ten years. Paul is one of the UK?s top drummers and educators. Mark has attended master classes with Dave Weckl, Thomas Lang, Steve Smith, Vic Firth, Dom Famularo and John Blackwell. Mark is also a member of the Vic Firth educational team and in 2005 he received an award from the Vic Firth Company for his contribution to drum education. In 2006 Mark broke the British record for the amount of single beats played in one minute (954 beats. Previous British record 919) and was featured in the international publication of Rhythm magazine. He currently runs a busy private teaching practice and teaches at a local technology college in his area.

Mark has performed at The Royal Festival Hall in London, Birmingham NEC, The Derngate Theatre and has also performed at the Maltings in Ely. Other performances include The Birmingham Symphony hall, The Woughton centre in Milton Keynes, to name a few. Mark has also headlined with bands and artists at The Sound Republic in Leicester Square, West One Four, The Half Moon and the Dublin Castle in London. Over the years Mark has played with numerous bands and artists covering a vast variety of musical styles. Support slots include The Sugababes, Liberty X, Kym Marsh, The Fine Young Cannibals, James, Barbara Dickson, Let Loose, Rozzalla, London Beat, Eric Bell and The London Community Gospel Choir.

Mark has worked on recording projects and performed with artists including Dave Bartram, Ruby Turner, Paul Slocombe, Bip Wetherell, composer Jiang Li and international opera singer Wei Lei. He has worked for Sky TV and performed on radio and TV several times. His studio work with the band Rushmore has been given airplay on talk radio and play listed on Capital XFM. Mark has recently recorded with the accomplished German singer/songwriter Kimberley McLean playing on her new album featuring her two NCM European chart number one singles ?What a Wonderful Time? and ?Hang Around?. Mark has also performed showcases for Sony music and has showcased with Mercury records band ?The Revelations?. Other companies that Mark has recorded music for include Virgin records, Polydor, BMG, S2 and Warner Brothers. Mark is currently working with the Band ?Elevision? Featuring TV presenter Sam Jones and has just started filming an instructional DVD for an arts group to be used for an online learning project and for commercial release.
