
Massage is often referred to as Swedish Massage after the popularity of massage spread throughout Europe due to the work of Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839). He wrote about massage in medically accepted language and also developed a programme of education. The Crown rewarded his work by setting up an institute in Stockholm and one in London was opened in 1838.
